Underground Veterans of the Portuguese metal scene with five albums under their belt we have BIOLENCE and their new release with " Enslaved, Deplete, Destroy". They got more then two decades of stage performances and an influence by metal acts from the 80's and 90's. So let's dive into this metal assault. The album opens with its "Intro" track and we get this clean guitar melody with a lead guitar line that creeps in. This really sets a tone and atmosphere as sounds of gunfire and war come in and take over (a little like the intro to "One" by METALLICA). Some blistering metal hits and we are straight into the first song with "Global Domination". Pounding double bass on the drums, demonic vocals and brutal riffs, the song has this killer groove to it. We are then hit with an evil sounding breakdown and a guitar solo that rips through the song with style.
Next up we got "Merchants of Inhumanity" which has this really cool old school riff from the start that is a little bit like SLAYER. Some great drum fills too and such great speed from the guitars (666bpm maybe?). This is a monster of a track and pure thrash metal madness. I was banging my head throughout. "Venomous Speech" opens a speech on global disaster (the Covid-19 pandemic maybe?). Some evil guitars creep in with a sense of doom. Some really killer riffs hit and some unreal guttural vocals and drums that just beat your head in. You can hear that this song would make some insane mosh pits. This is chaotic but so heavy too...favourite track so far.
After that one we got "Nuclear Winter" which wastes no time in jumping into the heavy tunes. Bit of a slower pace from this one but it packs one hell of a punch. There is a great groove to this song and the riffs are killer and the guitar solo is just epic which shreds with substance. There is an unreal breakdown with a riff with lots of style and very old school sounding. A really cool song. We get to the final track now with "Cyclic Redundancy Error" and this is the bands final assault of thrash metal madness. The band are on fire here and kicking ass. The vocals are killing it and the guitar solo has a lot of feel to it for this kind of music and I love it. There is so much speed and precision throughout in the playing and the riffs are great.
From listening to "Enslaved, Deplete, Destroy", BIOLENCE are as heavy as a ton of bricks. So many cool riffs and great grooves for this death/thrash metal crossover. The band are really tight with their playing and the production helps each member shine through. The guitar solo's have lots of style, technique and substance which I really enjoyed.
