Mob Mentality

Autumn Lies Buried

I identify strongly with their message, and it’s nice to see that there are fellow people out there who want to burn down the establishment. The music was strong as well, but just some pinches of more variation would have made the album stronger.

From Bandcamp, “Mob Mentality” is a reiteration of what we were talking about in previous songs like “Inhuman Skin.” The common people have been trained to think they are powerless to change their course in life. They think that the hands of the powerful will hold them down generation after generation, and that’s “Just the way it is. Well, we are preaching sin with “Mob Mentality,” and by sin, we mean strength In numbers. We cannot be held down if we band together against the grifters, charlatans, oppressors, and connivers. Burn it all.” The EP is a call to arms against injustice. Fuel for the fire that cleanses.

The EP has five songs, and “Strappado” is first, and it is devastatingly heavy. The vocals vary from deep gutturals to high pitched screams, and there are also cadenced sequences. There is hardly a moment to even catch your breath, and the breakdown is brutal as well. “Blood Money” features some rapped clean vocals amidst the punishment of the guitars and other vocals. It’s not my favorite style of music, but it seems to work well in the song. The drums fire at machine gun speed at times, and each strike lays waste to whoever is in their path. “Guillotine” speaks more about the subject matter of fucking the system, and bringing all crashing down. The speedy harsh vocals bring some variation along with them, and I get some shades of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE here.

“Told Off with a Sawed Off” has a slower, and more deliberate pace, and the song seems focused on crushing. The vocals vary again between deep gutturals and spirited shouts, and the music is nearly devoid of melody. “Debt of Silence” is the final offering, and it’s another brutal song. The drums roll forward with a steady beating, and the vocals add the icing on the cake. I identify strongly with their message, and it’s nice to see that there are fellow people out there who want to burn down the establishment. The music was strong as well, but just some pinches of more variation would have made the album stronger.
