I Am The Enemy
Austen Starr

Austen Starr is a singer and songwriter from Boston USA.She grew up in the late 90's,ear;ly 2000's which she describes as the Britney Spears era.Austen began her music career with a Spice Girls Toy Microphone ,where her audience consisted of her plush animals, who knew long before anybody else Austen was going to be a performer! She was raised in a musical family as her parents were in a cover band called "Sunny Beaches".Austen began writing songs at the age of 11,and identifies as a reluctant Bostanian who often channels her anxieties into her music. Austen's breakthrough came at Rock N' Roll Fantasy Camp where she met Joel Hoekstra.Impressed by her talent Joel collaborated with Austen to write and record her debut album "I Am The Enemy" , as well as playing guitar on the album, other musicians include Steve Ferlazzo (Hugo's Voyage),Chris Coller (Mick Mars and Lita Ford) and finally Chloe Lowry (Trans Siberian Orchestra).
This debut album starts with a Hard Rock modern sound "Remain Unseen" is a mid paced track with some strong & bold riffing,Austen makes her presence known with some strong but steady vocals."Medusa" is another strong offering with some vocal attitude, with a punchy melody its a great Pop/Rock track with a late 90's early 00's feel. The lead single and title track is the very catchy "I Am The Enemy" which has a great anthemic chorus, gives me Paramore,Avril Lavigne vibes it has hit record all written all over it. "Read Your Mind" brings the tempo down a notch with a slow tempo ballad, with Joel Hoekstra adding his guitar magic with some acoustic guitar touches, the vocals are well delivered which also give off a sense of vulnerability."Get Out Alive" has a heavier edge melody and guitar riff wise a strong number, which is followed by "Effigy" the pace is taken up a notch to deliver a solid modern rocker, which is also the case with "Running Out Of Time" which both have that Halestorm influence and sound.Another album highlight is "The Light" which is more reserved in the verses before unleashing a powerful balladic chorus,a track which shows the vocal talents of Austen Starr perfectly. The albums closing track "Until I See You Again" is another great rocker which motors along, inviting you to sing along in the chorus,a strong track to end the album.
Austen Starr has delivered a solid debut album, which lays some strong foundations for her musical career & direction, which I think that Joel Hoekstra helped with guidance & musical experience The songs are really strong, also they fit her vocal style perfectly.A very strong debut album which Austen Starr can build upon at the beginning of her musical journey. An artist with huge potential and a bright future.A very good listen and recommended.
