Covered with Rust

This is an EP with a strong CANNIBAL CORPSE theme from the name, artwork and the cover itself. This release comes a year after the first full-length album, Humanimals, so let's see what this is like, then for me, being a n00b to this band, maybe either avoid or be introduced to more of their material.
"Inexorable Hierarchy" kicks off the EP with decent melody after the weird little intro. The pace is set to a good level and the melodies are flowing. Then it all slows down amidst some strange sounds like the tape is broken. The pace does return in this strangely experimental song that seems like some crazy-ass mix of Death Metal and weird samples. This is aggressive and raw but fucking weird, but yet, I like it. The pace is controlled really well which makes zero percent of sense compared to how the song sounds. It is an awesome opener.
"Reautonomous" certainly seems to be going with more of the usual Slamming Brutal Death Metal traits. This one has a lot less experimentalisms. Its heavy and dark, same sort of pace in places from the previous song, this one just doesn't quite live up to the previous one. It is raw, it is aggressive, it is a good song, its just nothing we haven't heard before. That being said, its still going on my iPod. Its got a great balance and through this the melodies work so much better and more fluid.
"IDGAF" is the first of the covers. This one coming from OBITUARY. Its only a short one, but it follows in the footsteps more of "Reautonomous", which of course is not a bad thing. This one is however, a bit slower, and it is noticeable. The end is a strong finish, good melodies to close it, but not sure it was the best song to cover throughout.
"Covered with Rust" is the final song and the nod to the one and only, CANNIBAL CORPSE. The song starts off well, melodies building up nicely. The pace goes into frantic mode, which is controlled really well and it does justice to the original. The song is another great addition to this album and works well to raise the levels still. Solid finish.
This is a great little release and yes, I do want to get into this band more. They have done well to show their own way of doing things with the cover songs but also treat the originals with the respect they deserve. Well played.
