After a mere six-years in existence, the four-piece from Scottsdale, Arizona - ANGEL BLACK release an atomic explosion in the debut album "Killing Demons". An attack of speed and skill augments the eight-tracks on offer. Without a subtle, reflective moment the band have hit the musical nail firmly on the head with a musical hammer of intensity.

There is no gimmick or pretentious nature within the sound of ANGEL BLACK, they are not a commercial entity nor a band solely  in it for the buck.  There is a quality of emotion pumped into every square inch of this debut,  starting with a bang from the outset the band detonate with "Strikeforce", moving swiftly with guitar cranks into "Cyber Spy".  Guitarist Mike Jelinak creates a playground of licks which although based in the fundamentals from the very beginnings of metal, he does inject it with his own style.

There is at times touches of L.A eighties nostalgia in "Black Heart", not the strongest song here but more a display of how far the ANGEL BLACK can expand their sound. On the other hand "Killing Me" is the definite standout, the vocals of John Cason are soaring with power and conviction, as the band build a wall of vigorous metal behind him. Closing out the set with a vigorous reworking of the JUDAS PRIEST classic "Metal Gods", a tip of the hand to their influences while a pretty decent tribute is paid.  Everything that was good about old school thrash is kicked in the ass firmly of the direction of the twenty-first century, while many bands have had to up their game these guys seem to be well on top of it.

The production is minimalist, where at times it does justice to the band capturing their raw sound, on the other hand it lets them down when maybe an extra slice of sound a choral effect to galvanize the drama is needed.  What ANGEL BLACK lack in originality though, they make up for ten-fold in the aggressive assault laid out over these eight-tracks.  By all accounts we are the witnessing the birth of a band who if they can keep it together will succeed in this modern time of music. Their sound may not be for the faint hearted but it is from the heart, and that is a key ingredient in heavy metal.
