Altered Minds - Resurrected in Time album cover

This album is actually two separate albums...the first being a 1992 Demo of the final four songs, while the second is a new release from a resurrected band where the only original member was Ron Sandhu. It's Power/Prog, taken from the early roots of the genre. The album has a total of 10 songs. "Alone in the Dark" is the first. The main riff does indeed have an 80's/early 90's sound to it, like you traveled back in time. Back then, however, bands had to be able to sing and play, and the vocalist has a high but somewhat pitchy voice. The riffs are about what you would expect...simple.

"King of Deception" begins with thumpy bass notes and more elementary riffs. You have to remember, auto-tune wasn't invented until 1996, so the fluctuations in the singer's voice are natural, and some might even argue part of the charm. "Planet of Crossings" does indeed have a QUEENSRYCHE tinge to it, but it is more straightforward then that band at that time. The song is fairly catchy as well. The extended lead breaks were also a common way to fill a song back then. "Leaving it All Again" is the obligatory power ballad on the album. I say obligatory because almost every band at that time included a soft and slower song like this on the album.

"Destiny Calls" is the final song of the original Demo from 1992. This song has some nice guitar work and a rough, dangerous edge to the sound. The lyrics however are fairly trite...most bands didn't really put a lot of thought into them. "While I Sleep" is the first of the new batch of songs. I like the sound here. It's smooth and catchy. The continuation of the sound is almost as if the band never on an extended hiatus. They picked back up right where they left off. "I'm Waiting" is a bit underwhelming and the vocals are quite pitchy. Things are going downhill a bit, although the lead guitar work is nice. "Destiny Calls" closes the album, with tender acoustic guitars in the opening. The main riff then rolls in and the sound morphs to a heavier offering. But those pitchy vocals are really ruining the music for me. Overall, the music was pretty good, but the vocals were fairly bad. I have to question why a band from the early 90's would be interested in re-visiting their sound again 30 years later. I get that many of these bands have a hard time letting go, but there comes a point where they just should.
