According to an apocryphal book, the mythical character of Ahasver refused to help Jesus on his way to Golgotha. For this reason, he was denied the right to die and was condemned to wander the earth forever. This myth accompanies the entire printed history of humanity. In an age when fiction is stronger than reality, some say that the first man who will not die is already walking the earth. These eight songs are our contribution to the continuation of this narrative. It took four years to write and record the band's debut album, which is now set to be released in September 2022. This pooling of the artistic individualities embodies the evocation of what AHASVER might have seen among the ruins of this dying world: equity, sharing, inclusion and resilience. The album contains eight tracks.

"Fierce" is the first. It's a heavy, bold opener with plenty of dark and ominous tones. The vocals are semi-harsh at first, transitioning to fully harsh, amidst weighted accents in the rhythms. There is a little melody in the chorus, but overall, it's a powerful and gloomy affair, with excellent guitar rhythms. "Peace" rumbles from the opening drum sequence. The band's use of those heavy accents provides some real texture to the sound, which never sits still. The vocal harmonies in the chorus capture just a few moments of melody, while the passage that follows is chaotic and striking. "Dust" is a very aggressive affair with screeching guitars and thunderous drumming. These tight and compelling passages are handled by the band with deadly accuracy. The clean vocals drip with hopelessness, and the foreshadowing of a dying world.

"Tales" is a shorter song but just as intense as the others. Many of the Progressive elements materialize in the form of the meter shifting that the band is so good at. Take a listen to the section after the chorus...the chugs through it like Leatherface with his chainsaw, ripping it to bits. "Wrath" is a full-on assault, through thunderous drumming and layered guitars. The vocals vary between smoother cleans and gut-wrenching harsh vocals that will shake you to your core. "Path" is as destructive as it is suicidal, meaning that the Death Metal tones meld with Progressive elements into a bold, black stew with plenty of spices. At first taste, it bites back, but the more you sip, the more you like it, until you start to melt into the stew yourself. "Sand" is a mellower offering, with lamenting clean vocals. But that power in the bottom end is still very punishing. The anger swells until it reaches a boiling point, then it retreats again.  The constant push and pull is akin to a man on the brink of losing his mind.

The opus "Kings" closes the album. They seem to have saved a last hurrah of beatings until your eyes are blurry with blood. For a few brief moments, the melodies shine amidst the darkness, but these moments are fleeting. There is a long period of spoken words towards the end, wrapping up the themes of the story. These "new breeds" of Progressive Death Metal bands out there are starting to crop up, and fans are taking notice. Leave it up to another French band who understands all of the various nuances it takes to create such an outstanding album. Subtly refined, yet as strong as titanium, Lifeforce Records and AHASVER are ready to steal your soul with "Causa Sui."
