“A lamenting monolith of ashes and despair” is too soft of a phrase to describe the torturous pit that the album with throw you into head first, and there is no bottom. You will fall screaming, not just for minutes or hours, but for eternity. There is no light, no hope, no absolution, and no chance for rescue.

From Bandcamp, "In a world that has long since given up on itself, AETHER's second work rises like a lamenting monolith of ashes and despair. This album is not a collection of songs – it is a descent, a ritual, a mirror of inner turmoil. Between frosty melancholy and eruptive self-destruction, a soundscape unfolds that promises no redemption, but seeks beauty in the abyss. Every note is steeped in nihilism, every passage an echo of emptiness. For those who want to not only hear, but feel, this is not an album – it is an experience that burns, decomposes and yet has a strangely liberating effect."

The album has four lengthy songs, and "Trummerwelten" is first. Smooth, somber tones begin the song, but in the background, there are sound of someone tortured, far away. A thick storm of sand blows in from there, with racing guitars, pounding drums, and raging vocal screams. They almost seem to cry out from the highest mountaintop, begging, pleading for someone to listen and help. Talk about despair…this song is overflowing with it. There are also some animated bass notes, something you don't often hear in the genre. It has a cumulative effect…the longer it lingers, the more desperate you become. "Die alte Stunde" has a dense, thick sound out of the gate. The production could use a little fine tuning. The vocals are tortured again, queuing on any humanity you might have inside.

"Verfallen" is another thick slab of desolation. The aggressiveness that comes with most Black Metal is very much there, but desperate tones weigh it down. The entire song has a hasty quality to it as well, as if you are chasing something urgent that is burning down and you can't get to it. "Ins Nichts…" is the final song, topping off at 13 minutes. Clean guitars usher in a dark sound…a veritable storm. The storm is like a hurricane of high winds, pelting rain, and overall destruction, and it lasts for week, even months, not just days. The vocals reach a breaking point to where their emotional pull finally just crumbles, and there is nothing left to fight for, nothing left at all.
