Aeons of Ashes

Aeon Of Ashes is a Melodic Death Metal from Austria. They have been active, as a band, since 2013. This band, Aeons of Ashes has since 2023, two vocalists, Tim Sklenitzka and July Fellner. Very clever to add a female vocalist, did give them a new kind of energy. Both uses a perfect growl. The lyrics are about life, the occult and their last full album, The Wasteland Chronicles (2023) did have a lot of focus on the occult. And let's make it clear, the occult, and satanism doesn't have to be the same. Aeon of Ashes handles that part great.
Currents opens up with the track "Ephemeral", after a short beautiful intro, Aeons of Ashes are back. July opens up with her, energetic growl and, a typical Aeons of Ashes song, start in one way and take us on a musical journey. And they don't let anyone down. "Ephemeral" has rhythm changes, and a lot of different melodies. Some people might wonder, why have 2 growlers? Well, July has a higher pitched growl, and Tim has a dark, more classical growl. And they use it perfect. You get nuances even in the vocal area. When I listen to "Ephemeral", I can't help wonder why they don't go progressive, they are so close. So many skills.
Next track "Asterial" is a heavy, aggressive one, lots of riffs. It's like a statement. The lyrics are more in the occult zone, and "Asterial" has that touch. I have not heard every song with this band, and all they're done, but so far this track is the most angry one. "Unscathed" the third track did get my attention fast. We are back in the more melodic landscape, but with a touch of sorrow actually, the diversity on this EP is amazing, and you wonder what this band can't do. For me as a listener, it's a show, in skills, the music, the lyrics, the vocals are so connected. It's like, they did go into the studio, with the attitude, we take it all to the next level. Last track, "Rewritten" ...well, I'm in for another surprise. Short intro and then chaos, it's a wild track, but Aeon of Ashes does never stay at the same path, this is a strong track, has a lot of melody, breakdowns, a dialog between July and Tim, even if the track start with a bit of chaos.
It's so beautiful, and the track that catch you after one listening. Aeon of Ashes really make a stand with this EP. They sound stronger than ever, from vocals to drums. And get into a journey like this, when listen to music, I think ,that is every metal fan's dream.
