ADAM'S CURSE (2020) is a band project by Barry 'Bat' Kinane, ex-GLYDER guitarist, singer and songwriter. GLYDER released five albums in the nineties and has toured Europe sharing stages with the likes of METALLICA, THIN LIZZY and SLASH. Barry is joined in ADAM'S CURSE by drummer Brendan Gilligan who played with Bat 30 years ago in a thrash metal band called CURSED EARTH ( I say chaps, I do like that name ¡!) and bassist John Treacy rounding out the combo. The band copped its name from the W.B. Yeats poem of the same name "Adam's Curse", but I am sure you all knew this factoid already. Bringing Light ... To Dark Places, the lads rawk out with this very fresh release, "What The Ancients Knew About Us".

'A Vibe For Philo' is homage to one of Ireland's favourite sons, the one and only Phil Lynott. With its USA country pop tinge this tune falls a bit flat for me, but I surely does love me some THIN LIZZY and this begs the question: just what is a lizzy - thin or otherwise? 'Stargazer' is a likewise middling tune but does feature a fun free-range bass line by bassist John Treacy.  'Tattoos And Loneliness' with its big rock hook and chorus reminds me of a long lost MOTLEY CRUE or POISON song minus the trash, and I mean that in a good way. 'Borrowed Time' connects the dots between JAMES HETFIELD, his arranged vocal stylings and THIN LIZZY, if you needed that pointer made for you. 'What Lives Matter' is a rawk'n'roller in a STONES sort of way offering a somewhat convoluted moral message. 'Unmask Your Face' is a punk rawker that takes me back to late 80's 'MATS. Gawd, THE REPLACEMENTS; lightning in a bottle, indeed.

"What The Ancients Knew About Us" is a musing rocker by a journeyman songwriter and musician that shows off Irish folk roots to me Welsh-Jamaican lugs, especially with Bat's articulate and sympathetic smooth crooning. He shows bang-on lead guitar tonez and deft, musical touches in his guitar playing. Bass player John Treacy quite throws down a righteous performance here with a bass tone that reminds me of CROWDED HOUSE, JACO PASTORIUS and JOHN ENTWISTLE.  Have a listen to "What The Ancients Knew About Us", a squared away 40+ minute release.
