Abythic - A Full Negation of Existence album cover

ABYTHIC is a "Venomous Old-School" Death Metal band, whose members are from both Germany and France. From their bio, "musical praise to the dragons of the other side, for those seeking a return to the origin." This is the band's debut EP, and contains four songs. "The Dissolution of Adam" is the opening track. There is a bit of a muffled production and the key is in the low range. The vocals are definitely old school in terms of them coming in somewhere between guttural utterances and more noticeable lyrics. The guitar riff varies from fast picking passages to slower passages at times. "The Murder of the Clayborn" is a longer song with a slow lead-in and sinister sound. The lead guitar notes though brief are effective in conveying an ominous feeling that is to come. The main riff is faster and there is a little more connectedness to the changing structure of the song along the way. It's still very brutal and chaotic however, and the change up at the ending adds some diversity to their sound.

Flowing nicely into "Return to the Origin", this song has some more held notes in part of the riff that strike a bit harder individually to go along with the opposite riff that is fast picked. I think the heavier notes help to distinguish the song a little more from some of the others on the EP. I really like the changing sound of the closing song "The Black Light," which has a slower acoustical opening and some background effects that add some texture to traditional Death Metal. The chanting in Latin makes it sound like something you would hear in a good horror movie where Satan was the topic. If it weren't for this last track, I would say that besides good musicianship the EP doesn't have a lot to offer in terms of originality or a sound that you haven't heard before. However, the addition of this game changer shows some nice versatility and boosts the potential of the EP to make a mark.<
