Abyss - The Final Chapter
Annisokay

Abyss - The Final Chapter, the latest album by German metalcore outfit Annisokay, rips clean through the European metalcore scene with raw production, catchy choruses, with rage and emotion encapsulated throughout the songs. I had never heard much by this band before, but I can tell you they are great. From their softer more melodic side on songs like Silent Anchor, which feature pulsing, danceable synths and soaring, bombastic choruses, to aggressive tracks like Human which feature down tuned guitars, tortured screams, and a heavy breakdown, this album has it all.
The energy of this band is unmatched and I'd definitely say they are one of the best metalcore bands I've heard recently. This fifteen track full length LP is the complete version of their Abyss trilogy which began in 2023 with Abyss part I and concluded in 2025 with their EP Abyss Part II which I think is an interesting concept. A couple of new tracks were added - Splinters, Silent Anchor, and My Effigy - which add a lot more depth of the storyline behind the album.
Into the Abyss is the perfect opener to the track featuring some haunting synths and eerie piano keys. Some haunting vocals also add something to this opener and makes you known you're going to be in for something special. The forth song of the album, Throne of the Sunset, is probably my favorite track on the album. Featuring a heavy wall of sound to open the track, the unclean vocals of Rudi Schwarzer soar over the intense instrumentation. The clean singing of Christoph Wieczorek is the icing on the cake, creating a sort of pop sensibility among the cacophony of angry instruments and agonizing screams. It also ends with my favorite breakdown on the album. The energy here is absolutely unreal, and I can picture them on stage, bodies in the crowd moving back and forth to the rhythm and chaos of the music.
Silent Anchor features a dreamlike, synth beat, heavy drums and crazy layered guitars with the voice of Christoph soaring above it all. While still a heavy track, it has a bit more pop elements in it which add something great to the track. The chorus is catchy, the lyrics meaningful, something you can surely grasp onto and relate to. The breakdown at the end of this song is something to behold; a wall of sound which doesn't let go. Mangled guitars, pummeling drums, and aggressive in your face screams.
Overall, this is an excellent metalcore album, on par with some of the best metalcore that I have ever listened to. Catchy choruses, pop sensibilities, heavy breakdowns all create a masterpiece of a metalcore album which will be listened to for years to come.
