3^rd WAR COLLAPSE is a brutal death metal band that started in 2016 and hails from Brazil and Finland. This is their first full-length entitled "Damnatus" released through Guttural Brutality Productions on February 25^th, 2021. The grim tone in the introduction of "Eyes of Deception" sets the tone for an inferno of blast beats and some deep death metal vocals that flirt with the grindcore variety at times, and are closer to Glen Benton, when not as guttural.

"Broken Celibacy" has some thrash elements with some more intricate guitar parts, which have that groove and complexity akin to DYING FETUS, to be fair you could make quite a few parallels between the 2 bands in how the songs are structured and flow from riff to riff. The thrash metal portions I find some similarities with KREATOR. "Fifth Column" is right down the DEICIDE alley, with more crushing drum parts that are simply relentless in their violence and blatant aggression. When the song slows down its pace (barely), it has those low-tone rhythm parts that made MISERY INDEX such a force in the 2000s.

The title track "Third War Collapse" is one of the few that start with an introduction of military sound effects and especially gunfire, whereas you would expect, the drums kick in full force, with the snare taking an absolute beating, and transitioning from the traditional old school Swedish death metal pattern to the rapid blast beat crescendos. The brutality these songs represent is exhausting to listen to, as I am sure it is 100 times more demanding to maintain over a 2-3-minute span, with very little breaks in between.

The sprint to the finish effort "Profit from Corruption" is arguably the most intense song on the record (not saying the others do not have that flavor), because the snare is constantly at the forefront and the repetitive quick drum sections are constant throughout the entire number.

Maybe because it has more of a German metal approach, but one of my favorites by far is "Weak Minded Society" which does share the violent nature of its musical counterparts, but shows off the strong guitar work capabilities of Cristiano Martinez, who is a hellacious player with incredible stamina and talent.

If you were looking for off the charts violent brutal death metal that can get your blood boiling, take the 26 minutes needed to listen to this effort. Not only does it pack a punch, it makes you go through 12-rounds of boxing torture. The album has a solid production for the genre as well, which is not always the case. This record will give your ears a good workout.
