DimKar: After the doors of AN Club had opened and most of the people had entered I wasn't wondering about Wino's setlist but the one man band DARSOMBRA featuring Brian Daniloski would perform. Well, nothing prepared me for what would come next; after installing about 9 to 10 pedals and I think two ipods, he began playing his guitar. At first most of us were taken back, the sound was dissonant and alien, but then slowly he applied layers upon layers of sound and soon the dissonance was lost and music took its place, very dark, emotional very avant-garde, something with an industrial flavor, a dark math rock that was impressive. Wino himself joins at the last few moments too.
Harry: To tell you the truth, I didn't know what to expect from DARSOMBRA. We've talk with Brian a few hours before the show, so I knew the way that he is playing music, but I couldn't understand what I was going to see on stage. If someone tries to describe his music with labels, he would talk about drone, psych and noise with a pitch of stoner and doom riffing. But the thing is that sometimes labels just can't give exactly what a musician is trying to "say". And this is true for DARSOMBRA. At first it was just sounds and to tell you the truth, I didn't like it. But as time went by and by putting one layer of sounds above the other, I found out where he wanted to go. A 20 minute set that really made everyone applause and he surely many of us are going to check his discography.
DimKar: After that it was the time for the legend to take the stage, with just a simple guitar he "offered" his soul to us through a personal and intimate performance. He played almost the entire "Adrift" album. There was an amazing energy in his play, an energy that touched all of us, as we stood there sometimes singing along, sometimes just listening with jaws dropped. Then after a few songs he unplugged the guitar and moved down the stage and started moving among us and singing the crown praising him. I personally never felt anyone so close to the crowd as Wino.
Harry: What should I say about this man? Just a few months after he came in Greece with SAINT VITUS, he is back, this time with a personal acoustic album in his language. I could write "to promote his new album" but this would be appropriate. And that's because it was like an old friend grabbing his guitar and playing a couple of songs for his friends. He played songs from "Adrift" and some other covers, like "Heaven On Their Minds" from "Jesus Christ Superstar". He even played the main riff from "Into The Void" when a fan asked him to play something from BLACK SABBATH! Between songs like "I Don't Care", "Adrift", "Hold On Love", "Old And Alone", he played a cover of LYNYRD SKYNYRD"On The Hunt" and some songs from his past like "No Hope Goat Farm" and "Dead Love / Jug Fulla Sun". Someone from the crowd shouted "This is Metal!" just after the cover of "Iron Horse / Born To lose". I couldn't agree more. The only bad moment? Some idiots, to say the least, that were talking loudly most of the time. I feel sorry for them. After 70 minutes and the magic moment of Scott "Wino" Weinrich playing unplugged of stage, walking between the crowd we tried to close our mouths and get back to reality. Thank you Mr. Scott "Wino" Weinrich for this great experience.
DimKar: The truth is that there weren't many of us there, but that was even better like a few friends who could appreciate the music that is being played. Spit Like A Man Promotions did a great job.
