From my point of view when a band like URIAH HEEP visits your town for an one-time-only unplugged gig, you should be there to experience their Rock magic, even though the over-driven electric guitars were in the back. Mick Box with his crew are almost 40 years on this classic Progressive Rock highway and nothing seems possible to stop them. The band is currently on tour promoting their new and 21st studio album Wake The Sleeper and they decided to take a short break for an unplugged acoustic show in Greece.
More than 400 people where invited in the X-Club 22 venue; the event was sponsored from a certain tobacco company (I am against smoking so don't want say which company made those people smoke their asses of all night long and made this small club a place hard to breath in). URIAH HEEP, as perfect Englishmen, came on stage at the exact scheduled time and gave an one-hour set list with classic songs like Sunshine, Free Me, July Morning and Lady In Black along with some new ones that sounded great on my ears. Someone once said: If your songs cannot sound good with an acoustic guitar alone...then you have crappy songs, and from that point of view URIAH HEEP's song proved to be shiny diamonds of music.
The Greek crowd was full of passion even though the sound was really bad with some resonate bass notes to spoil the high pitched and clear voice of Bernie Shaw and the smooth guitar playing of Mick Box. As Mr. Box explained to me during the sound check: It's too hard to get a decent sound with loaned equipment. Despite that, the band performed their best under these circumstances and gave their Greek fans a life time experience that they will surely remember for a long time.
