Even though I took my time to prepare for the gig, for my surprise I was out of the club 10 minutes after the scheduled time and the show had already started. It is a big pleasure to see that Greek organizers have started doing some good work keeping a tight schedule and stuff. Anyway, I quickly entered Fuzz Club and grabbed a beer to enjoy DESCENDING's show.
Although I expected more people, only a few were into the club during DESCENDING. The Greek metallers did their best to warm up the crowd with aggressive melodic Death Metal tunes inspired by the Swedish scene. Their music does not amaze me since I believe it is nothing more than typical Swedish Death Metal, but the band was hot as hell on stage giving a damn great show with lots of headbanging. The sound was not so helpful since the whole meaning in this kind of music is the riffing and the melodic leads. Unfortunately, the guitars were kind of buried. Thumbs up for the drummer who is a real beast behind his drum kit. The band performed songs from their debut album, which is out on Massacre Records. Fans of this sound should definitely check them out.
After ending their set, they warned us to prepare for the Gods, as they called THE HAUNTED. The roadies hit the stage and everything was being prepared for the entrance of - in my opinion - one of the best and most important acts of the Swedish scene nowadays. More people had started gathering, so my initial thoughts of low attendance were driven away. The Swedish thrashers got on stage and they really amazed me with their passion and energy. Especially Dolving, a frontman that has lost my appreciation with his latest moves in various sites and forums, was one of the best frontmen I have ever seen. If you haven't had the chance to see this band performing live, you can't even imagine what I am talking about. He was always moving around (something that made my photographing job really difficult), he was screaming, talking to the crowd... It was fucking sweet listening to him singing songs like Bullethole, Hate Song, In Vein and many more. With a better sound than DESCENDING, THE HAUNTED knocked as out with a wall of riffs and Dolving's incredible performance. Their setlist included tracks from every single album so I guess that everyone was kind of satisfied with D.O.A., 99, The Medication and the all time moshpit song Bury Your Dead.
Thumbs up for the organizers who managed to organize a nice show and have it end early enough for everyone to catch the bus or the subway for his way home. I hope we see more gigs like this one in the future. It was a great night and I owe a thank you to both bands and the people who worked for that night. Cheerioz my fellow thrashers and see you next time!
