Even though I'm not the biggest fan of Soulfly, I was really looking forward to Seeing them live this Monday, February 27th, here in Athens. I arrived kind of late for the opening act since I got caught in the big city's traffic so unfortunately I missed Linea 77's first two songs. The venue was packed as hell and I personally think the concert could have been held at a better place. I headed straight to the bar to grab me a beer and ease the heat I was feeling inside the crowded Club 22.

Nobody seemed to know much about Linea 77 but what we witnessed on stage was a Hardcore/Alternative metal act from Italy that was quite appropriate for the perfect warming up of the crowd. They actually managed to make a lot of heads swing with their groovy hardcore guitars, their two singers (a handsome one and an ugly one - for the ladies it may concern) and their pounding rhythm section. They performed songs off their 4-album discography (2000-2005) for more or less 45 minutes. To me they seemed like a really tight act and in my humble opinion they could reach bigger heights in the near future, given that they receive the proper promotion worldwide.

When Linea 77 finished their set the people had to wait for 30 minutes and then under triumphant screams Soulfly stepped on the stage to begin their shredding performance.

First song: Babylon and the crow got crazy! Mosh pits, headbanging and people screaming!... and the musical orgasm came for us with next song, Prophecy... no comment. Magic moment. People in the air, jumping, singing, screaming to the groove of their fuckin' kick ass guitars!... Here comes Roots Bloody Roots to slay our ears, reminding us the good old days of Max. While the crowd was totally insane, Mars, a musical break for us... loading for the next song, Refuse,Resist and Sepultura's big time right there just for us.. Of course when you see Max on stage, you can't resist the desire for some Sepultura songs so Max gave us Troops Of Doom (indescribable moshing) and the night passed into history with capital letters.

The sound of the band was good enough, could have been better though, and the performance they gave on stage was more than professional. I would prefer to call it tremendously energetic and that is something that the crowd appreciated so they had no problem but to give in themselves to Max and his gang.

Soulfly prove that night what having communication with the audience means. The people were moshing and crowdsurfing all the time, so much that the security staff of the venue really earned their money that evening. After, more than an hour, Soulfly said goodbye to Athens with Eye For An Eye and they seemed pleased with the achievement of the night.

Soulfly played for approximately 90 minutes and gave us a great concert. We are expecting to see them again, hopefully in a bigger venue. JUMP THE FUCK UP!!!!
