Finally the first winter drops of rain fell on Athens that Saturday setting the best mood for a mix of Greek Hardcore, Goth and Black Metal music on a live event that took place at Texas Necropolis featuring ALTER SELF, DIMLIGHT, CHTHONIAN ALCHEMY and RANDOMWALK.
I arrived at Texas Necropolis Club to see that DIMLIGHT were playing; I was totally impressed by the amazing female vocals of Sanna. Usually it's hard to even hear yourself sing on-stage, when a band is playing that loud but Sanna made an excellent job and she truly elevated DIMLIGHT's music with her performance. DIMILIGHT are playing atmospheric Metal with female vocals and male brutal vocals from Invoker, a strong solid 6-piece band that is promising.
After a short break CHTHONIAN ALCHEMY hit the stage. This time behind the drum kit was Mechblastess. It's hard to find female drummers on a Gothic_ Black Metal band and I must say I was curious to listen to them. Nevertheless I was surprised by her performance especially on the fast tempo songs. CHTHONIAN ALCHEMY tried not to play as loud as the other bands did, but still the awful sound system set up of Texas Necropolis cannot let any band to be heard properly.
There were 150 people in the club by the time CHTHONIAN ALCHEMY left the stage and we were prepared for the main event of the night. RANDOMWALK are one of the best new bands in Greece and maybe the best band in the Goth Metal scene. Their album Redemption (read Metal Temple's review on Redempion here) was accepted really well from the Greek fans and I was glad because another female musician appeared of stage this time with a bass on her hands. Indeed Absinthe Green gave a great performance and handled the heavy RANDOMWALK bass-line in her own unique way.
RANDOMWALK chose to play five brand new songs from their upcoming release and the crowd seemed very pleased; honestly we can't wait to listen to their new songs on the studio versions. RANDOMWALK have a strong theatrical appearance with the monk Dorian on keyboards, Absinthe Green with her sexy and aggressive headbanging style on bass and mainly with Jean Baptiste on vocals. Jean is an alternative Goth figure and captures the audience with his controversial outfit and aggressive performance.
RANDOWALK were the best band of the night and set a new appointment with their fans on December 6th at the same venue. Greek Goth maniacs, be there!
