If there is one band that knows how to draw a crowd and get the blood flowing, it is
KORPIKLAANI! With their polka-esque brand of Finnish Folk Metal, violins and accordions blazing, this band is as good as they come for being able to bring the energy levels to a maximum! And to see for myself, I recently attended their performance at the
Masquerade venue in Atlanta, Georgia, US. To say the least, I was not disappointed whatsoever! Having also reviewed their latest album "
Noita" I was ready and focused on having the best possible time with one of the biggest names in Metal in general. This band's popularity is justified, as the music they write, record, and perform is without a doubt some of the most recognizable in the world.
I started off the evening with great anticipation leading up to the show (and with every intention to drink while I was there). To add a personal note, I am not known for consuming alcohol at shows or in general, but that night was a bit of an exception, for how can I resist pouring a few pints into my trusty drinking horn and raising a toast for the legends that brought us a most excellent collection of drinking songs such as "Beer Beer," "Vodka," "Tequila," and "Wooden Pints"!
I was doubling as the photographer, so once I had as much of the camera filled up as I could, there was no hesitation in getting out into the crowd and joining the dancing circles and mayhem that made up the mosh pit. Being right up by the stage meant that it was either move or be moved! While the music, like the crowd, was full of motion and fest, I did not see as much energy in the band, though they still played to everyone without fail or missing a note. The set was at least an hour long and included familiar songs and one of my new favorites, "Viinamäen Mies."
My friends and concert-going counterparts said that it was one of the most enjoyable shows that they have ever been to. This was one of the most enjoyable shows I have attended as well, as one could expect from a Folk Metal show. Everyone was cheerful and lively for a Wednesday night which made the event exceptional.
KORPIKLAANI played on point and the crowd took home a lifelong memory that will be shared with many others. I would have loved for the night to not end and when I am afforded the opportunity to go see this band in concert again, may the stars align that I might live to bear witness to the epicness once more!
