To say that I was anticipating this concert was an under statement. I was never really expecting to see Green Carnation ever in concert let alone only having to travel 25 minutes from my house. Though the day got off to a bad start because I was supposed to interview guitar player Tchort and they were two hours late. Though on the upside while the opening band was setting up their stuff I got to chat with singer Kjetil for at least 30 mins. He was very nice, kind, and personable.

As far as the overall turn out I was not really expecting it to be great, but this was just plain sad. The only people that showed up other me was about 6 other people that came to see Green Carnation solely. The rest of the people came to see the opening band Sicadis, who are a local band. Sicadis were not too bad. I was kind of getting into them. They had an excellent guitar player and the singer had some nice stage presence. Their sound could be described as Metalcore, but it wasn't overally generic sounding compared to some bands that have contracts with major labels. I wish them good luck with their future endeavors.

Beyond The Embrace also put on a good performance. Before going to see them I think I had only heard one song, so I wasn't really sure what to expect from them. They put on an unexpectedly good performance. If I could describe their sound it would be a mix of Power and Thrash. I was able to speak with them shortly before their performance as well and they said that they just lost their third guitar player so their sound was exactly what it should be. I still thought that they sounded great. They were very interactive with the crowd, which I also liked talking with us and even taking requests.

Then the moment we had all been waiting for, well the 6 people that were there GREEN CARNATION! I got my spot right in front of the stage directly in front of Kjetil with camera ready. Now the downfall of the evening other than the lack of people was that they were supposed to play acoustic songs, but their guitars never came. This particularly sucked because my favorite song by them The Burden Is Mine Alone is acoustic. Anyway they played mainly songs off their album The Quiet Offspring, which is something that I enjoyed because I knew the album way better than the rest of the material. They played tracks such as The Quiet Offspring, Purple Door, Pitch Black, and A Place For Me. Everything they played absolutely rocked! I was trying to get the rest of the people into the music as much as me, but it was not possible. At one point Tchort was busting an awesome solo, one of the three he did, the singer came down in the crowd and smoked a cigarette with me. I could have used a little bit longer of a set, but the band was tired and the crowd was clearly not into it, so I suppose it is expectable. I hope they come back soon.
