Sunday the 15th was the last day of 2014's Download Festival and it certainly went out with a bang with bands such as STEEL PANTHER, VOLBEAT, ALTER BRIDGE, TRIVIUM and more playing over multiple. The temperature had cooled down but the spirits were still high no matter who you was here to see, everyone had a good time as it was hard to be sad with all the talent playing. The festival may be over for another year but it was full of memories of bands and fans.
Main Stage
The infamous STEEL PANTHER were back for an hour long set at Download Festival with lots of spandex and glitter, bringing a mix of classic tracks and new songs too, the set wasn't as good as it was in 2012 it still had its special edge even if most found it incredibly disgusting. Despite the lack of boob cam this year Michael Starr still got the girls on shoulders to get their breasts out, even bringing girls on stage with them for ''17 Girls In A Row'' and singing his heart and soul into songs such as ''Community Property'', ''Asian Hooker'' and ''Pussywhipped'', bassist Lexxi Foxx got the crowd going through the small breaks and introducing the rest of the members with quirky one liners. With less breasts visible and a lack of Corey Taylor appearing on stage it was still a set to remember, even though they had mixed responses their loyal fan base still stands strong.
AEROSMITH had the perfect setting for their stage show at Download Festival with a huge stage complete with a catwalk for Steve Tyler to strut down; the crowd was huge and rammed at main stage which was full of fans for the classic Rock band. Riffs and solo's flowed throughout the songs with Joe Perry strumming songs on his guitar, his best moments being in songs like ''I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing'', ''Livin' On The Edge'' and ''Dream On'', Steve Tyler had the crowds singing to every word with the classics and the lesser known songs. It was certainly a set you'll never see again, Steve Tyler got the crowd chanting to make them play past the curfew time ending with ''Sweet Emotion'' and ''Mama Kin'' full of fireworks and various other pyrotechnics.
Zippo Encore Stage
When the band last played Download Festival on the main stage they simply blew the crowd away but it's sad to say they upset their loyal fan base this time, the hard rock band fronted by Taylor Momsen opens up with ''Follow Me Down'' followed by ''Since You're Gone'', ''Sweet Things'' and ''Cold Blooded'' before entering towards the older stuff that all fans new. It was a great setlist for sure but THE PRETTY RECKLESS were constantly out of time and Taylor Momsen was constantly dancing around the stage and missing out on parts of the lyrics, it seemed as if guitarist Ben Philips had to take over everything to make sure the band got through the set.
Anticipation was high for TRIVIUM's headline set of the Zippo Encore Stage with a rumoured ''Ascendancy'' style setlist and the band certainly pulled out every single stop, as always the band opens with its newest tracks ''Brave This Storm'', ''Strife'' but quickly the tone turns to songs like ''A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation'', ''Dying In Your Arms'', ''Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr'' and ''Down From The Sky'' which had the roughest mosh pits flowing throughout the set. Fans were worried how vocalist Matt Heafy would sound due to his recent vocal troubles but he powered through sounding better than ever, new drummer Matt Madiro had stepped up his drumming skills since joining the band on tour unexpectedly and it feels like he fits in well with the band. The set ended with ''In Waves'' which started numerous mosh pits and pyrotechnics were blasting all over the stage, TRIVIUM truly took over the stage and were an unmissable band of the weekend.
Download Festival 2014 had a much weaker lineup than previous years but it had set lists that you couldn't hear anywhere else in the world, it looks like despite the much lower ticket sales the festival will be carrying on for 2015.
