Yes boys and girls, it's Top 5 time again, and what do I have in store for you this week? Well, when I was thinking about this article I knew what I wanted to do almost immediately. You see, Heavy Metal and comic books have often gone hand in hand, a lot of us Metalheads are in fact comic book fans, so inspired by that fact, on this edition I will give you the Top 5 Superheroes (in my opinion of course), so lets get to it:

Here is an intro for you, compliments of Edguy:

5. Spider-Man, good old spidey, I'll be honest, I myself have never been a major Spider-Man fan, but he is the comic book hero for many, and why not? Comic books were originally meant for kids entertainment, and the shy, not very popular high school kid turned superhero after being bitten by a radioactive spider was the perfect protagonist for kids reading comic books to look up to, despite his heroism, his regular everyday problems and his sarcasm appealed to both kids and adults making him one of the most popular comic characters of all time.

4. Thor, originally hailing from the Norse mythology we metal heads hold so dear, Marvel Comics mastermind Stan Lee turned him into a superhero in 1962, and much of his mythological origins remain in place, despite some changes being made. He's still the son of Odin, he's still fighting against Loki, but now he's doing it as part of the Avengers, Thor's comics are a great introduction to the basis of Norse mythology and with 2 successful films behind him, one solo, and one as part of the Avengers and his third film appearance currently playing in theaters, Thor's comic book version is more popular now than ever.

3. Wolverine, although he's the most popular and famous character of the X-Men franchise, Wolverine made his debut in 1974, over 11 years after the X-Men franchise began.A loner, angry and generally unpleasant guy, his popularity continually rose throughout the 70s and 80s until he got his own comic book in 1988, he was the main player in the X-Men film series and also became the first to get his own solo film, and really, what's not to love? He's constantly pissed off, wants to hurt people, and looks at everyone as assholes, but let's be honest, who doesn't?

2. Batman, making his debut in 1939 (then known as the Bat-Man), the character rose very steadily in popularity throughout the years, the son of murdered billionaire Dr. Thomas Wayne, Bruce Wayne has become one of the most popular superheroes of all time, mainly owing to him being one of the few superheroes with no super powers, instead relying on his wits, physical training and his gadgets (including the legendary Bat mobile), as the years progressed, the character became darker, pulling no punches when it comes to fighting crime, the recent Dark Knight film trilogy just proves that Batman is without a doubt getting more and more popular as the years go by, and just like the hero, the villains associated with Batman such as The Joker, Bane and The Riddler have become just as popular.

1. Superman, the first superhero, created by two Jewish kids from Cleveland in 1939 and first appearing in Action Comics, the character is celebrating his 75th anniversary this year, Superman has changed over the years, originally unable to fly (he was able to leap over buildings), the character gained more and more powers over the years. The introduction of Kryptonite and his arch nemesis Lex Luthor (originally a mad scientist) made Superman both strong, overcoming all evil, but at the same time vulnerable, as his popularity grew, Warner Brothers put him on the silver screen in 1978, portrayed by the late great Christopher Reeve, a man that truly made the character come to life. After Reeve's accident several attempts were made to revive the film series, culminating in the moderately successful "Superman Returns" in 2006, in 2013 however Superman was back in the movies with a reboot of the series titled Man of Steel, to huge success and a sequel already in the works featuring both Superman and Batman. The character has become legendary over its 75 years in existence, so much so, that when in 1992, DC Comics ran a storyline known as The Death of Superman, it became international news, and with "Man Of Steel", the legend only continues to grow.
