Promotion: OSOG - Live - 12.9.2014 / By Maya Aviv
August 17, 2014
OSOG, or ON SHOULDERS OF GIANTS,began its way back in 2007 as an experimental project by Avital Tamir (lead vocalist of the Israeli Metal band BETZEFER), and Idan Epshtein (7%MINDUSAGE), both well-known and active figures in the Israeli Metal and Punk scenes. The project also consisted Katie Danielson, a Jerusalem based singer and multi-instrumentalist. OSOG released one album, "Come Crashing", however, in 2009 their activity was put on hold due to Danielson's relocation from Israel.
In 2013, OSOG reinvented itself as a string quintet which draws its magical and unique sounds from old-time music coming from the Appalachians, sunny Hawaii and Mexico's hot deserts.New members were added to the project which now became a band - All friends from the local Metal and Punk scenes - David Benjamini (THROUGH BLEEDING EYES), Assaf Perelmuter (THE TESTICLES) and Erez Shmida (HAPUSSY SHEL LUCY). Danielson's soft female vocals were replaced by Tamir's edgy vocals, and alongside the acoustic guitars which characterized the group's sound, joined the Banjo, Mandolin, Ukulele and a Lap-Steel guitar.
They spent their first year of activity performing countless shows in clubs, bars and as street artists, gathering up a big following fan base. On March 2014 they released their second album "Cowboys from Ukuhelle", which introduced the band's new persona to the world. It was funded entirely by the band's fans using a crowd-funding campaign, released independently to much acclaim, gained many downloads and shares over the social networks.
On September 12th at the OzenBar Club, Tel-Aviv, OSOG will present their new ensemble of eight players, with Guy Fleisher on drums and percussion, Omer Ashano on the violin, and coming back to the stage front is Katie Danielson on a special visit from the USA.
The band will play songs from their current album in new, bigger arrangements and present materials from their upcoming work alongside classic Appalachian old-time music.
