[MA GDPR YouTube] Invalid video id.Formerly the front woman of progressive rock band Touchstone, Kim Seviour has made a resurgence within the scene with her new material, which saw a collaboration with one of prog music's finest and prevalent musicians, John Mitchell (who also assists in the running of White Star Records together with Chris Hillman).
Together Kim and John co-wrote and produced her album 'Recovery Is Learning' which came out on July 28th 2017 via White Star Records.
Kim Seviour, who has suffered with depression in addition to her diagnosis with M.E/CFS syndrome says this about the lyrical content of this track
"We've all experienced times when we find ourselves stuck in one metaphorical hole or another. 'Call To Action' is about that moment when we make the decision about what we're going to do to get us out of the aforementioned hole, especially knowing that it won't be an easy task. We have the determination and ability within ourselves to create change for the better, providing we have a bit of faith and ignore all of the stuff that tells us otherwise. For me it was a tough experience but knowing the end goal really helped achieve making that call to action."
What the press say about 'Recovery Is Learning'
" Seviour possesses the kind of dramatic, crystal-clear voice you'd find onstage in the theatres of London's West End, dripping with emotion and perfectly suited to the lush, tasteful rock ' forged in the Porcupine Tree mould ' that envelops it."
- Classic Rock Magazine
"It's great to hear Seviour in powerful voice, soaring above a set of songs that mostly favours the formula of less-is-more. This album resonates with acceptance, optimism and positivity"
- Prog Magazine
"This is an all-embracing melodic-progressive experience with dashing keys, emotional guitar and of course dramatic vocal content. For Evanescence and or Solstice enthusiasts."
- Ramzine
"There are times I was reminded of Kate Bush, other times Panic Room. This is a solid album from start to finish"
- Powerplay 9/10
Kim has a particularly unique approach to the feel of her musical creations, which encompass magically mesmerising soundscapes and lyrical content that represents her own personal journey to recovery. After enduring various adversities whilst going through the writing process for the album, her ongoing struggle with M.E/CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) motivated her more than ever to inject her experiences and emotions into her music, which has cultivated in a stunningly unique album that is sure to cement her as an artist to watch.
Kim says this about her recovery:
"I started off wanting to write about what I'd learned already from my own health experiences and the process of recovering from them. I became unexpectedly ill in other ways whilst writing which actually delayed it, so the second half of the writing process was all about climbing out of it for myself. Because of this, the album turned into a truly organic self-fulfilling prophecy."
Kim wishes to promote mental and physical well-being and as such, that is what her album inspiration is derivative of and what comes from her ongoing studies learning about Psychology.
Kim was the first ever signing to White Star Records. Her former achievements to date are touring with Touchstone and playing with notable artists in the prog and rock scene such as It Bites, Joe Elliot, and performing at festivals such as High Voltage and Ramblin Man Fair. Her work with Touchstone was what inspired Chris and John to sign Kim's solo endeavour after she departed Touchstone.
