SEVENYEARSDEAD come from North West of England and To The Ruin Of It All is their debut album released through Corpo Productions. The band counts seven years of life but it was 2006 when the lineup was solidified leading to the creation of the maiden album. Before this full length release the UK quartet has produced one demo and two EPs.
Although I was alarmed that this could be another Metalcore album I found myself in front of an audio wall under the influences of PANTERA and SLIPKNOT. The down tuned guitars and the compact drum work are the main elements of SEVENYEARSDEAD's music that to my ears sounds quite interesting. G sings following the Hetfield approach with 'out-of-tune' vocal vibratos, served with MACHINE HEAD's Robb Flynn spitting and hate fueled pronunciation. The bass guitar sound dominates the rhythm section with a fat sound taking your mind over HELLYEAH's in-your-face attitude.
I was totally impressed by the British band in the massive song The Chosen. Here the band reveals some strong composing potentials with headbanging rhythms, melodic breaks and some hearty Dimebag-esque guitar solos. Actually, this album needs additional spins to deploy the band's weaponry that is not restricted in the aforementioned influences. Songs like To The Ruin Of All and Jacknife praise the MACHINE HEAD sound with cutting edge guitar hooks and neck snapping breaks. The clean guitar Epitaph offers a really nice outro in this overall impressive debut. This track breathes the same beer atmosphere with HELLYEAH's Alcohaulin' Ass under the expressional vocals despite the fact that is 100% distortion free. The production of the album is hitting hard on the speakers with a hearty bass profile that is there to snap your neck and make you move under the macho feeling groove.
It is always nice to see bands to implement all their influences in their music without being a simple copycat of the originals. SEVENYEARSDEAD hit the scene with a power fueled album that will be appreciated by all the heavy rhythm lovers who have all the PANTERA albums and do not have a problem with the mainstream approach of SLIPKNOT.
