All SOLITAIRE albums must be released on vinyl format, for Speed Metal hell's shake! The cover artworks, the neatness in their Metal music, the albums' durations, the denim-and-leather pics allover...fuck...One of Finland's most vicious Metal bands the last years is back for the attack. Predatress shall grab your balls and won't let go unless you obey to the CD cover's predatress. You think only in Black/Death Metal it's as extreme as it can get? SOLITAIRE strikes so hard...again.
The Finnish quartet (from now on) of lunatics is punctual: every two years there's a new album around, Predatress counting as their fourth full-length one. Four demos had preceded from 1997, while a new label (Finland's Ektro Records) is the host for SOLITAIRE now. A change in the lineup refers to the band being a four-piece now with founding member Riku deciding to take care of the lead vocals too. That's the only more-than-average but less-than-impressive point into this new album, since his voice surely fits the music in general but sounds somehow unstable throughout most songs while - I believe - he kinda pushes his throat to high pitches resulting in a rather squeaky' result. Nothing irritating, not at all, still some more harshness may have provided a better dressing to...
...bombastic Speed/Thrash/Rock 'n' Roll tunes like...the whole album, indeed. Again SOLITAIRE has written tunes of demonic velocity, pounding drums/bass and some razorblade riffs you simply cannot resist. Like the predatress (is it an alive depiction of Sonya, the band's mascot featured in all the previous albums?) shown in the front cover of the CD, you'll nail down your souls for rapid Metal in the vein of EXCITER, RAZOR, AGENT STEEL, SAVAGE GRACE, JAGUAR, RAVEN, (primal) HELLOWEEN, (first album's) SLAYER and dunno-who-else Speed Metal demon(s). The production is not as retro' as you may assume, but it will definitely be the cup of tea for 80s Metal lovers. This is supported by the 'classic Metal' playing of the band, of course (breaks, leads etc).
If speed and nothing more is all you dig in Metal music, then I take for granted you've already discovered this magnificent band. If not, it's never too late to introduce yourself to the metallic madness of SOLITAIRE. It's extreme Heavy Metal to the top, don't get fooled. Fast & furious & loud Metal not appropriate for wannabe fuckers!
