Sinister - The Silent Howling album cover

It seems like it is the year of the big disappointments in Metal. First it was THE HAUNTED with their pointless effort to return back to their old sound, then it was SLIPKNOT with their stupid idea to sound even more commercial than they did with Vol.3: The Subliminal Verses and they released a huge pile of Metalcore shit! Now, it is time for SINISTER to destroy their image and become one more average Death Metal band.

The Dutch death metallers return two years after their pretty good Afterburner album, which in fact was their last one for Nuclear Blast Records. With a new contract with the German Massacre Records and a kind of weird line up, since they thought it was a good idea to change members and switch to different instruments, SINISTER are here with their brand new album that is somehow... boring.

It seems they decided to continue what they created with Afterburner, but they lost it a bit on the way. We have an album consisted of 7 tracks with an approximate duration of 47 minutes! It seems SINISTER are not so good at creating huge Death Metal opuses. There are some nice ideas here and there with Alex Paul spitting some really nice and venomous ideas with his axe, while the band's new drummer Edwin Van Den Eeden probably brought down the studio while recording his drum parts. The fact is that the Dutch maniacs don't have the passion they once had. They have lost their creativity. I have been a huge fan of this band and I have been watching them closely up to their incredible Creative Killings, but since their Nuclear Blast 'swansong', they seem to have lost some of their past 'glamour'.

I don't know why, but one of the most kickass bands that Holland ever produced is starting to become nothing more than a classic Death Metal band that tries to sound like it did in the past but it is not working as it seems. Ok, this album is not so bad, but it surely isn't what I expect from SINISTER.
