If you have already taken a look at the cover artwork and you have read the song titles then you would be stupid if you didn't understand what this band plays. Even though I can't be really specific since SUPERGIANT is one of those bands that make you wonder if there is Stoner Rock or Stoner Metal.
The Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States rockers/metallers were born in late 2005. As you can see these guys are pretty fresh in the scene, but they didn't lose any time releasing their debut EP in 2005 (on their own may I add) and their first ever full-length release this year.
The US Metal/Rock act balances between the 70's Hard Rock/Blues sound with many psychedelic touches and the well known Stoner scene with a slight Punk attitude. The down tuned guitars and bass, which sound like a bulldozer tearing down a wall to be honest, are the classic elements for such a band, but let's not forget the most important part of this music, the riffing. McCollum's riffs have the groove; they have the dirt and everything you expect to find. Rogers' vocals are also strong and filthy, adding the necessary macho tone to the songs.
All in all, Antares is an album with no new elements to add to the Stoner scene, but let's not forget that the specific music never tried to change music. It still remains as pure and heavy as it started. So go get it you potheads. You'll surely need a soundtrack for your beer/whiskey drinking moments...
