I have commented many times on the revival of Death Metal. After many classic Thrash Metal bands releasing new stuff or making reunions that offered us great albums, it is Death Metal's turn to kick some ass. During the last years, many bands released quality albums, such as acts like ATHEIST, CYNIC, ASPHYX, PESTILENCE and many more! The band that interests us in the specific review is PESTILENCE, and to be more precise their brand new album.

Who doesn't know the Dutch band that left their mark in the Death Metal scene with milestones like Malleus Maleficarum and Testimony Of The Ancients among other successful albums? Has anything changed? We have a new addition to the PESTILENCE line up, since DARKANE's Peter Wildoer has taken the seat behind the drum kit and the bass architect Tony Choy has taken the earthshaking duties, like back in the Testimony Of The Ancients era. What do we have to expect from PESTILENCE?

To tell you the truth, even though I was impatiently waiting to listen to Resurrection Macabre, I can't say that I ever forgot about Mameli's statements back when PESTILENCE split up. He was the one renouncing Metal and its fans and now he's back in action with PESTILENCE playing Death Metal. I smell money here...

Avoiding to comment the mediocre cover artwork which is nothing more than the classic cold Photoshop work, Resurrection Macabre is a pretty good Death Metal album, and probably one of the most brutal works by the Dutch act. Mameli even avoided the Spheres jazzy style and delivers a pure Death Metal album with no experimentations. With a heavy and clear sound, PESTILENCE return to their Malleus Maleficarum and Consuming Impulse era to give us a murderous assault that will satisfy all PESTILENCE and Death Metal fans in general. Nice heavy guitars with some brutal melodies and Wildoer's frenzy drumming that adds the appropriate speed and groove to the music are ingredients that make Resurrection Macabre successful.

So, what we have here is a really good album and a man that returned to his fans like a dog to its boss. Not so honest if you ask me. Anyway, if you are into it only for the love of music then this album is a nice treat for you, but if you have second thoughts on some ideological issues, then I guess Mameli started digging his own grave when he wasn't really thinking about he was saying.
