Following their last appearance here in the UK earlier in the year, British band Young Guns returned to the UK for some more dates in support of their new studio album
"Ones And Zeros" which came out shortly after the last tour. They were supported on the tour by two fellow British acts including
VUKOVI and
BOY JUMPS SHIP and on the 17
th of October, they made a stop at The Concorde 2 in Brighton and this is my report of the show that took place that night.
At around 7pm, the doors opened and the venue slowly began to fill up with fans making their way towards the front row to get a good view. I myself took a seat in the press pit as this was the first time I would be covering/watching the show from this position. 15 minutes later at around 7:15pm, the first support band VUKOVI took to the stage and played a short 25 minute set for the fans and their Hard Rock tunes resonated quite well throughout the venue. The interaction between the bands front woman and the crowd was also quite impressive to watch as they got the crowd to sing and shout along with them on a few of their songs which got the show off to a good start.
Next up was the second support act BOY JUMPS SHIP who came onto the stage at around 7:55pm and they played a 30 minute set and I found myself enjoying their set as their Punk Rock sounded put me in mind of the early days of FALL OUT BOY before their split in 2009. The melodies of the songs sounded very peppy and cheerful and they were also very catchy too putting a smile on a few faces in the room including myself as I was moving around the pit snapping photos of their set.
After this, I began to look forward to the headline act as in the lead up to the show, I found myself listening to the new YOUNG GUNS album and I did enjoy the songs I heard so I wondered how that would transition into a live set. I didn't have to wait long at around 8:55pm, YOUNG GUNS took to the stage and needless to say, the party really got started.
From the moment the stage lights came on and the melodies of their new albums opening number "Rising Up" began to resonate throughout the room, both the band and the crowd were displaying an incredible amount of energy. I've seen some pretty lively bands on stage before but I think that when it comes to energy and stage presence, YOUNG GUNS could come very close as the entire room was alive with a mixture of incredible energy, catchy music and voices that resonated throughout the room bouncing off every wall in the room and returning to the ears of the individual.
Throughout the bands incredibly energetic and lively set, they played a mixture of songs from their three albums with a heavy focus on playing songs from their new album "Ones and Zeros" including the title track, "I Want Out", "Infinity", "Memento Mori" "Lullaby" and "Daylight". Songs from their first and second albums was also played live including "Stitches" and "Winter Kiss" from the first album and "Learn My Lesson", "I Was Born, I Have Lived, I Will Surely Die" and the title track from the second album.
Hearing all of the songs that were played sounded pretty damn sweet and their was also something else that fascinated me throughout the bands set. You know how it's usually traditional for bands to get the crowd involved with their set by singing with them? That's pretty much what
YOUNG GUNS do as well but they do it in such a way that is so amazing, you are fooled into thinking that they don't just play for the crowd, they're playing WITH the crowd and you know, you'd be correct on that theory.
As they played their 60-65 minute set, you could easily tell that they had a special connection with the audience encouraging them to sing along, jump up and down, bang their heads and getting them to make as much noise as possible with them. I know a few bands who have done this at shows I have been to over the past few years but there's probably not one who could match the intense energy and love for both the fans and the music they make quite as much as
YOUNG GUNS do but in order to truly appreciate and understand what I mean, you'd have had to have been there.
Bottom line, if you're looking for incredible energy and a tight bond between both the band and the fans, then look no further as YOUNG GUNS are the band for you. I highly urge you that no matter what you do, even if it's just once in your life, you must see this band live and when you do, you'll see for yourself just how lively they are as a band and also how much fun they have with both the crowd who come out to see them and the songs they play on the live stages they step on to.
