Once more
ProgStage Productions give us a schooling on high quality music, about how rock/metal music evolved by bringing upon us the best of the classics. After an unforgettable visit by
URIAH HEEP which gave as an amazing rocking show,
ProgStage couldn't be satisfied without the whole package, and at the 2nd of September we had the cherry on top,
Ken Hensley.
For those who don't know, Hensley is a keyboard player, and established his musical career with the legendary URIAH HEEP in their earlier years, in addition to his keyboard skills, as a singer, a Guitar player and a songwriter. Hensley had established also an honorable solo career, with songs memorable for ages and many generations having grown up on them.
The show took place at the Havana Club, Tel-Aviv, surprising for me, for someone whom has never been at this club. A little bit old fashioned, and a Blues/Jazz venue, equipped with a good quality stage. Although it was strange for me, it had suited the show perfectly. The crowd showed a wide range of ages, containing the older generation who had grown on the 70's Progressive/Hard Rock such as URIAH HEEP, alongside with the new generation honoring the moment of musical heritage, so it's good the club had a comfortable sitting places.
This night Ken Hensley was accompanied by the LIVE FIRE, better known as KEN HENSLEY & LIVE FIRE, band members of the Norwegian group. WONDERWORLD Comprised of splendid musicians, the vocals and the bass by Roberto Tiranti, who shows how to lead a band, and more important, how to lead the whole show but to give the right spot for the headline, the most important, Ken Hensley. Ken Ingwersen, on solo guitar, rocked the stage perfectly by giving the spice it had needed.
On stage, Ken Hensley himself was located in a not-so-wonderful spot with the huge electric organ standing at the right corner of the stage; it basically hid Ken's performance for most of the time for the most of the crowd, showing only his head from time to time. This spot, eventually caused the crowd to gather in this corner to get a closer and better look at Hensley.
But, how about the rest of the audience, who paid and came to the show, who only get to hear Hensley's great performance from the organ and and instead watches the supporting bands act? This seems unfair to me.
However, all of this was compensated by
Hensley's acoustic guitar performance. From the moment he stepped to the stage with the guitar to perform some of his best classics, the amazed crowd scattered from the corner to get a better look
Furthermore, LIVE FIRE gave a stellar performance on stage and did it absolutely right and tight. But still, I couldn't ignore the fact and the feeling that most of the show I had watched was all about the supporting band, LIVE FIRE bKen Hensley, due to the electric organ position.
There is a thin line between a good and a bad performance, right or wrong. Those who had managed to stick at the corner to get a better look, enjoyed better the magic in action, and literally, Hensley gave rocking moves on the keyboards, caressing, sitting, hitting and putting soul into those keys. It's amazing to watch a 70 year old man still giving a rocking performance; watch and learn boys and girls! On the other hand, those who couldn't manage to squeeze in this corner, Hensley's rocking spirit still could be heard, especially when it all followed by the professional performance and hard rocking spirit of LIVE FIRE.
The play list contained a good proportion of Hensley's solo career but also some good old songs by URIAH HEEP. The amazing collision of ages in this show was phenomenal, between the old and the new serves the fact that classics never dies and there will be always a new generation to take care of it and cherish it.
