It has been around five years since Entombed came to our fair city of Manchester, five years on though there have been some changes, with both the band adding the A.D. to their legendary title as well as the release of what has to be one of the most anticipated albums of two thousand fourteen. Now with their return to the U.K the band seem to be more aggressive and ferocious as before, In this gig review I will be detailing the portrait of a legend revived. This is Entombed A.D.!!
So to start of with lets begin with round one of the show featuring one of my personal favorites the absolute destructive force as we all know them as Foetal Juice, straight out of Bury England this powerhouse of Grind goodness brought with them to the show their A game, a set filled with very gut wrenching titles that are sure to mix the pot when it comes to the pit, and from being in said pit and experiencing every moment I thought that Foetal Juice did one hell of a job when it came to audience interaction and bringing that intense atmosphere which is always needed when watching a Death Metal gig. The band themselves are lovely guys when they aren't ripping your ears a new one with their brutal full force stage presence. All in all I give their set a definite ten out of ten for both effort and for Vocalist Sam's interaction with us all down in the front of the pit.
What more can be said about SSS other then relentless, powerful and certainly a band that knows how to bring it!. From start to finish the band brought with them a mix of both old classics for the older and younger generations of metal fans to enjoy as well as playing some new mterial from their recently released album Limp. Gasp. Collapse, The band have shown through this performance that they are still going strong and by watching this performance I would definatly say they have become stronger as a band and a live act. I can compare watching them at Daamnation Festival 2013 to now and say that without a doubt SSS are back and better then ever, and by the looks of it the audience certainly agreed. Of course ther are going to be new viewers to this band and of course there are those who have been there since the very beginning but when you get down to it this is a band that can never really put on a bad show so if you were there and had just started getting into this band you were definitely in for a treat.
So we come to the main support act of the evening The Graviators. From the very start I found that this band had a very unique quality, this quality of course to which I am refering to is that the abnd has an amazing stage presence which if I might be honest shows that this band is very confident when it comes to live performances, Before the actual gig I sat down with these guys and had a lovely chat, all in all these guys know what their doing when it comes to their soound and how they get things done and trust me folks they get things done on stage like no other, they have this very early Doom sound mixed with a lot of their many influences, from talking to the guys there are to many to count but trust me I think you can understand what I'm saying when I say that they have this awesome sound that shows off all of these influences. Through their set you could feel the groove just bouncing through the room, this was by far a set that caught my attention and from seeing what they could do at the Roadhouse I would like to see what they could do to the Soundcontrol.
So now we come to the big finale, the mighty Entombed A.D., a band that needs no introduction as they have remained one of the most crucial forces in Swedish Death Metal and are still bringing it harder and faster then ever. As their set began we faced the introdcution to the bands new record Back To The Front, the first track to be played would be the aggressive masterpiece Pandemic Rage, a strong opener if ever there was one, not only did it set the mood for the start of the show it allowed many in the crowd who have not heard the new record yet to hear what it is capable of and if you ask me I think the audience was really taking to it very well. To be honest through the show I found this incredible sense of energy in the crowd, at the begining of the show I was located at the front where I got a face to face look at what Entombed A.D.'s set was capable of, in other words I was in the battle field fighting my way through and experiencing all over again the gravity of the bands set, as with any Entombed set you will come to face to face with speed and adrenaline the likes of nothing you have ever seen before. What made this show special for me as a fan was the many classics that I grew up listening to, these tracks may include Left Han Path, Wolverine Blues and Serpent Speech some of my all time favorites and played to the best of the band's abilities, in other words all these songs were played to the level Entombed are best known for.
Entombed A.D.
1. Pandemic Rage 2. I for an Eye 3. Revel in Flesh 4. Second to None 5. Eyemaster 6. Living Dead 7. Out of Hand 8. Wolverine Blues 9. The Underminer 10. Left Hand Path 11. Chief Rebel Angel 12. Supposed to Rot 13. Abnormally Deceased 14. Damn Deal Done 15. Serpent Speech
So to conclude, I just want to say that for those reading this and have not given the new record a try I would definitely suggest it as it embodies what this band is all about.
