At first I wasn't very warm to do this review. After listening to From The Womb To The Tomb... twice, I changed my mind. MAIM's debut release, since they haven't even released a demo until now, is what I needed in order to leave all the problems behind for almost 35 minutes. And since From The Womb To The Tomb...is an in-your-face small in duration album, the same my review will be.

MAIM is playing 'old school' Death Metal; in other words, the way that Death metal is supposed to be (and not the Gothenburg scene sound that unfortunately most will think of with bands like IN FLAMES). Their 80's Death Metal sounds beautiful in my ears. All the right ingredients are here: The blastbeats, the un-polished production but a sloppy (in a good way) one, the rough riffing, the harsh growling vocals, the deep as hell sound of the bass... the list could go on, but I don't think I have to do that. Just listen to, for example, Dawn Of Blood or From The Womb To The Tomb. The samples from zombie movies in two songs give that extra something and the small duration of each song and the album in general is something positive, since with a longer duration it would have been a boring album. Bands like AUTOPSY, ASPHYX and KAAMOS will be proud of this quartet.

If you like your Death Metal pure and you are looking for a new release, From The Womb To The Tomb... is the album for you. If you think that Death Metal sounds like IN FLAMES you should listen to this album and the pre-mentioned bands in order to find out. Let's just hope that we will have news from MAIM in the future.
