Trying to guess the music these guys play just by their name and the album's cover artwork was not an easy task, since both things are kind of neutral. The only thing I could do was listen to the CD and search the internet for some info, things I actually did. What I found on their label's site was not so helpful, since as every label does with its bands, Casket described MONSTERWORKS as the most diverse band you will ever find.

The band was actually born in New Zealand, but was later reactivated in London, UK. They already count 13 years of history and have several full-length releases under their belts. This is actually their sixth full-length effort, which is being released through the UK label Casket Music. So, what about the diversity we were talking about earlier?

Well, Casket describes MONSTERWORKS as a band that perfectly mixes Thrash, Black, Death, Grind and old school Metal (don't even know what old school Metal means). What I faced was a band that after all these years still hasn't found its sound. Other times they almost reach the Power Metal fields, other times they sound like a classic melodic Death Metal band, and other times they have these groovy almost Nu Metal riffing. All these are completed by a singer that could use some improvement (not that he is bad, but surely needs some extra work) and a mediocre production that could fit a demo better.

I don't know but this band didn't manage to make me headbang, not even for a second. And regarding the vocals... When you try to sing with clean high pitched screams, brutal vocals and harsh NWOSDM ones, too, you surely need to work a lot. It is a lot harder than it already seems...
