I came to know Monolithe a couple of years ago when they released their first full length album called I. It was one enormous track of over 50 minutes time length of exceptional Doom Metal.
Two years have passed by and the French doomsters released their second album, named it II and it's obvious that this is a concept album, following the same pattern. The whole album consists of only one track, over 50 minutes in playing length. When Monolithe formed in 2001, Sylvain Begot and the others, decided to make three concept albums inspired by Stanley Kubrick's 2001 - A Space Odyssey.
The journey that Monolithe started on their first release now continues. This is excellent music, slow, atmospheric and powerful. Black feelings blended with a few fragments of positive energy, keyboards and sound effects that are tightly mixed with the Doom guitar sound. The production is excellent. Above all one thing is certain. This album, just like the previous one, is not recommended for everyone, because it is not easy listening and not all can listen to a gigantic track of almost an hour's length, although it's surely worth trying.
This is definitely recommended for all Doom Metal fans and for all those that often keep an album of My Dying Bride spinning in their CD player. Sometimes, like now, you cannot describe the music with words and only if you listen will you understand and be part of the journey.
