Scarleth's Ekaterina Kapshuck: "Ukrainian people still don't really listen to heavy music. And there is actually no Metal scene in here as it is in Europe, for example. It's hard for metal bands to get recognized in Ukraine."

Hi first may I say thank you for performing this interview for the readers of Metal Temple Magazine. How are you? Would you like to say anything to our readers before the interview questions below, a message to the fans?

Hello guys! Nice to meet you. If you haven't already listened to "Vortex" we would like to say you have to! Actually, you know, nowadays in this world of constant changes and adaptability it is crucial to do what you like, live the life you want. As we say, Be what you are!

What was the foundations of the band getting together, how did it all begin?

Victor came to Kyiv and began searching for musicians. It took some time but finally all we got together and now it's our Five 🙂

What is the underlying theme of the new album "Vortex"?

Our music is a mixture of many different genres in our unique style. And the new album is a vortex of emotions and feelings which will carry you through all these songs which represent different stories of life.

How long did it take to write & compose the "Vortex" album?

From the first words "Look, guys, I've got cool riff for new song" and to the release of the album it took 4 years. Hard, long, but very interesting 4 years 🙂

What inspired the writing process when composing "Vortex"?

Almost anything. We gathered at home, write something in DAW. We jammed at studios, recording everything and creating some cool stuff. Even once we played at festival in Belarus and Kate got so impressed by folk band - she went home and immediately wrote text and vocal theme for "Ostannya Zorya".

How easy or difficult has it been to get recognition in Ukraine compared to around the world?

Unfortunately, Ukrainian people still don't really listen to heavy music. And there is actually no Metal scene in here as it is in Europe, for example. It's hard for metal bands to get recognized in Ukraine. Even now there is more radio stations in Europe that stream our music than in our country. But still we are doing some tours in Ukraine, trying to share our music with our countrymen and also look forward to play abroad.

Do you have any plans to expand on the tour for the album's release anywhere other than the Ukrainian leg of the tour?

We are now working on this, we have some suggestions and of course we'll do our best to show this album to whole world 🙂

When the album was written & produced did everything run smoothly or were there any hiccups?

Well, we signed to Rockshots Records just when the album was written. The guys are professionals and they know their job. We released a few singles, our music video and I think at this point everything is going great 🙂

What has been the song from the album most favoured by the band to perform and why?

Even two people have absolutely different tastes. And we are five! 🙂 There is no one song that is a favorite for all of us, but when you put so much effort, soul and love in songs, you'll be absolutely excited and amused by playing new album. That's what we feel any time we play all that songs!

When designing album art, who does the artwork and will they continue to create future album covers?

We asked Gustavo Sazes who made the epic album arts for Amaranthe and Arch Enemy and we were really pleased when he agreed. And he did fantastic work!

Where do you see Scarleth heading in the future?

In nearest future we are going to visit festivals in Europe and Ukraine and absolutely will see you at major rock festivals of the world 🙂

Thank you for performing this interview for the readers of Metal Temple Magazine, I'd like to wish the band every success in the future.
