U.S.A is the land of opportunities, really it is, since you can have a stupid idea and due to the millions of people living there eventually someone will buy your idea and make you rich. You only have to know how to play the PR game just like JOB FOR A COWBOY did. You ask,  what about the music? Well, the key word here is stupid idea.

JOB FOR A COWBOY is, what they would be like to be called, a Death Metal band formed in Glendale, Arizona in 2003; but what they really are, is a Deathcore band trying to wear the wolf skin of a technical Death Metal band. They appeared in the Metal scene with the EP Doom in 2005 and continued with their first full length album Genesis in 2007. Ruination is their second full length album after various lineup changes. Ruination is an album that should never have gotten the attention it has and the same goes for the band. I may sound a little harsh here, but I will try to make my point as we go. As much as they tried to solidify their sound in Ruination, and they did move a great way from the discord sound of Genesis, the sound of Ruination is still boring and monotonous. Guitars try to play technical and shed the Deathcore sound from them for a more Death Metal riff but they try so hard that they produce a constant dissonance. There are also moments in the album that one might feel that they try to cover the vocals or the vocals try to cover them. The bass, where is the bass? Well it's there somewhere but it doesn't make much difference if you hear it or not. The best part is the drummer, that guy knows how to play, he is great; but someone should tell him that he is not playing alone, he has to play WITH the band rather than trying to show off his awesome skills.

Vocals are much, much better than Doom and better than Genesis, squeals are nonexistent and the vocal range is closer to Death Metal than Deathcore. Yet the lyrics are nothing new; JOB FOR A COWBOY went from the apocalyptic and religious lyrics of Genesis to more political and social lyrics, describing events that have been sung again and again from countless bands, way better than Ruination. I believe that bands like JOB FOR A COWBOY should always have in their iPods and play it on repeat mode  Human and Leprosy from the fathers and masters of technical Death Metal, DEATH. They should learn that randomness in music is not always technical playing and that political lyrics should be given with the force of a statement, not just to appeal to the crowd.
 
Ruination is mediocre, although better than the band's former albums, it is made to appeal to people that get impressed easily and are shallow. Albums such as this can only be used against the underground scene and should be avoided.
