My first encounter to Jorn's works was through a review on his third solo album Out To Every Nation that saw the light of the day in 2004. During my research on his background I came across to Jorn's rich past with bands like VAGABOND, THE SNAKES, BEYOND TWILIGHT (excellent debut),  BRAZEN ABBOT and of course the first two MASTERPLAN albums. His excellent and powerful voice got him to the latest and most successful rocks operas by Tobias Sammet (Scarecrow) and Arjen Lucassen (01011001). Of course, I could not forget to mention his vocal alliance with SYMPHONY X's  Russel Allen in the two ALLEN/LANDE releases.
As you can see, Jorn has been most busy releasing some (what I think) at least impressive albums. His latest and fifth solo album comes through Frontiers Records under the title Lonely Are The Brave. The album was produced at Jailhouse Studios by Tommy Hansen who is also known by his works with HELLOWEEN, PRETTY MAIDS and TNT. The sound possesses an almost raw Hard Rock dirty sound that fits like a glove to Jorn's vocals enhancing the classic influences from bands like WHITESNAKE, DIO and even DEEP PURPLE. Actually, Jorn is deeply influenced by David Coverdale especially in his breathing technique while has a wide vocal range with a timbre that looks towards Dio's side. Lonely Are The Brave, Night City or War Of The World are based on the guitars that come with a solid rhythm section carrying the aforementioned old school atmosphere.  The mid tempo song Man Of The Dark and the almost Doom Soul Of The Wind have strong dynamics through the solid bass guitar rhythm and Jorn's emotional performance.
I really enjoyed the fact that the compositions are not focused on the vocals but present some very good guitar grooves that will get in you by the first CD spins. The album closes with the Epic 6 minutes of Hellfire that reminded me of the artist's early works in Starfire. Here, Jorn challenges his voice by moving on the higher pitches and as expected does an excellent job. Although, the song has a mid tempo, is heavy as hell comprising an almost BLACK SABBATH bass guitar groove and a guitar solo that will speak straight to your heart.
I think Jorn has created one of his best albums with distinct references to his Hard Rock origins and influences wrapped with a flawless and powerful sound production.
