Ascension
Inpathos
From their EPK, "With the departure of Jordan in late 2022, vocalist Patrick Bradford became the newest member of INPATHOS. With the band back at full power, a new EP set for release August 2023 and a third LP in the works, we are ready to forge onward to new frontiers." The album has three songs. "Forsaken Shores" is the first. It begins with acoustic guitars and a distinct Folk Metal swing in the pace. From there, a heavy and ominous sound develops, with deep gutturals and screams at times. Nabil is a beast on the drums, and that heavy instrumental passage near the end of absolutely commanding.
"Frostweald" is shorter and faster, with enough energy to light the fuse of a bomb. The clean vocals in the chorus are a nice surprise, and help to strengthen the band's sound. So is the acoustical ending as well...they are full of surprises. It segues into the closer, "Ascension," another heavy and rousing song. The temperance at times of the aggression with melody is perhaps strongest in this song. The bass notes after the half way mark are thick with effects, and carry the melody for a spell, before the song ends with more acoustical guitars.
My biggest complaint on the album is that we only get three songs, because their presentation is sharp, and tight. Their sound is definitely heavy enough for Metalheads, but it is also refined and discerning. I have said this before, anyone can run through a string of songs that are aggressive but the bands who compose more carefully always catch my ear. INPATHOS are on the path to victory with this three-track album.
