Moricaint - Elessar album cover

From Bandcamp, "For this release, they decided to use Tolkien's universe as their thematic foundation. The lyrics of "Elessar" is put together in parts from Galadriel's message to Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings. "O Lórien!" borrows from The Song of Lórien - as performed by Galadriel on the day the Fellowship of the Ring departs Lothlórien." The album has only two songs. "Elessar" is the first. Smooth synth tones lead off the song, along with some scratchy lead guitar. The sound is hasty and the vocals bite with rage. The production is very heavy on the treble side of the clef.

"O Lórien!" is the second and final song. The day the fellowship departed was both ominous and hopeful. Although I suspect Gandalf and Elrond has their misgivings, they never let on to anyone else. The sound is a perfect combination of these polarizing feelings. Melancholy tones combine with rays of light in a very gorgeous sound. There is a slow down towards the half-way point, where clean vocals hang in the air precariously, followed by a desolate passage of harsh vocals. It ends with Galadriel's calming voice, and charming keyboard notes.

Two songs are hard to judge an EP on, but I felt like I got the sense of what the band was all about. Although the production was bad (maybe on purpose), the songs shined a light in a dark dungeon of thing that are kept away from the outside world. I enjoyed both songs and would look forward to what the band can offer in the future.
