Narnia - Ghost Town album cover

I don't normally listen to christian metal but Narnia is pretty good so I'll make an exception. I am a christian and if you're into christian metal I would recommend them. I like their music which is easy to hear and has lyrics provided. They even have a nice collection of videos available to watch on their youtube! The First track Rebel definitely has a progressive metal sound with some good ol christian lyrical content. The second song on the album Thief was interesting, I wasn't paying much attention to the vocals but started to really enjoy the guitar by CJ Grimarck around 3:30 it just really rips there good! Overall a pretty solid track The next track Hold On starts ok, it has a pretty decent mid section, more shredding, and the end is well...not what I want to hear but it satisfies.

I give them credit for mixing up the intro on track four Glory Daze. It wasn't as interesting as the intro on the next track Descension which was a very good progressive christian rock ballad but nothing completely original. I like that this band kind of makes you think about some of these topics. It's a lot more interesting to me as a christian than the flooding of hardcore satanic metal bands which just feel kind of like a circle-jerk teenage angst in my opinion. If I wanted to listen to that I'd just listen to Scene music.

Modern Day Pharisees had a good name so I gave it a listen next and the piano was refreshing around 1:40. All around good musicianship here, I don't really see much to complain about, I kind of think they should try and make some more videos though. The next track Out of The SIlence reminds me a lot of Maynard James Keenan's voice. It sounds good though, I could definitely see this being a good progressive metal track for the modern christian audience. The final track on the album Wake Up Call seems like it's trying too hard to be something it's not. I would have preferred to just hear more ambient piano at the intro but the screaming will suffice. It was still a pretty song, but I think they need to be a little more experimental and courageous with their sounds if they want to take it all to the "next level" I like to call it but really it is just keeping with the times.
