666: The Disciple
Madness of Sorrow
From Bandcamp, "MADNESS OF SORROW is a Gothic-horror metal project made by the Italian musician Muriel Saracino. From 2012 M.O.S. has released worldwide five albums, all very well reviewed in Italy and in the rest of the world by webzines and radios. The Gothic atmospheres are well mixed with horror thematics and visuals. The album has four songs.
"Possessed" is the first. Angry voices open the song, followed by a dark and brooding riff and harsh vocals. The riff is pretty straightforward, and the vocals sound better when they are fully harsh. "Damned" begins with eerie synths, which transition to another slow and easy sounding riff. The synths do however provide an edge to the music, which is fairly bland unfortunately. The clean vocals aren't bad, and at least they are trying to diversity the music a little. "Metamorphosis" is a deep and evil grind, and here is where some of the horror visuals come into play. The bass thumps deeply, with eerie keyboards in the background.
"Disciple" closes the EP. Another slow, frightening sound rolls forth, with a bit of a combination between Gothic Metal and some Industrial elements. The subject repeats the phrase "I am not crazy, I am in control," as if he is trying to convince someone, namely himself. Overall, this was a decent album with promising peaks of horror. If the duo could transform some of that horror, and make it really come through stronger, this could have been better however.
