Hailing from Denmark and formed in 2005, Progressive Metal band THIRD EYE have managed just one release to date, in 2010. 13 years later, they are back with their sophomore release titled "Vengeance Fulfilled," which has ten songs. "Ashes in the Rain" is the first. There is an ominous opening sequence, followed by a more streamlined sound. Vocalist Tiago jumps out at you right away, and really has some pipes. He can also maintain control in all ranges. The music is fairly melodic, but dark, and the Progressive elements can be heard mostly in the time changes that the band is capable of.

"At the Break of Dawn" is a slower and darker song. Tiago shifts his voice from the low range into higher ranges depending on the mood of each passage. The music also shifts from darker passages in and out of the light at times. "Forest of Lies" is another dark offering with a steady, straightforward sound that really keys on the vocals. The keyboard solo stamps the sound quite well. "Even the Gods Cry" is a slower, more emotional sound. It's rich and filled with wonderful melodies. Let this one flow through you and it will move you for sure. The melodies are on point.

"Vengeance Fulfilled" is mean and nasty, with a snarl in the main riff, and vocals that are tinged with anger, as the title suggests. The harsh vocals accentuate that point. Much of the melody come out in the chorus. This song ducks in and out of melodic passages and rougher, darker ones. "Pages on Fire" begins with a slower pace and some piano melodies. Ahh...the piano is really and underused instrument in a lot of Metal music. I love what it adds to this song. It morphs to a murky sound once again, and it's obvious that the band loves their dark music. "Fire and Lightning" is a bit more tender and timid at times, but still stays in the shadows. They are right on the edge between a good song and a great song here, if they would just let the melodies develop a bit more. "The Silence of Indifference" features a lot minor chords once again. Lifting the darkness from the album even a bit would help the sound to open up. I get it, it's fun to play in the shadows though.

"Rise from Waters" closes the album. It's a lot like the others, and I think the darkness overstayed its welcome. Overall, it's clear to me that this band will go where Tiago's vocals lead them. The musicianship of every member is strong, but his voice carries the band and album. They dwell just a bit too much in the grey, and in the storm clouds if you will, for my tastes. Pulling back more often into positive passages and major chords might help, but that's just my opinion. It's a solid album with a lot to offer fans, and I look forward to what they might do next.
