Bloodclot - Souls album cover

BLOODCLOT are a Hardcore/Crossover formation from New York City, and could be classed as a supergroup. This short album hosts a completely new line-up, with just singer John "Bloodclot" Joseph left as band leader. He is a certified legend through the music of his former band CRO-MAGS. Tom Capone used to be in QUICKSAND, Craig Setari you might know through SICK OF IT ALL. Darren Morgenthaler is not exactly an unknown person either, as he is associated with MADBALL. The bands mentioned are all brilliant Hardcore bands with a large following. By the way, if the names mentioned don't ring a bell, I do suggest you check them out and their music. Yes, even you as the quintessential metalhead will like what you hear.

So now they have come together and pulled their resources to record some music for this, an intermezzo before they will (hopefully) return later in 2023 to impress us with their third full length album. Why is this an in-between? Well, to be exact, we are talking about just under twenty-one minutes of pure Crossover metal/Hardcore with a heavy SLAYER connotation. Is that a problem? Well, no, as what these guys bring to the turntable can only be classified as bloody good. "Souls" is fast, furious and very, very intense.

What surprises me is not the music in itself, as it is more than suitable to have a good time thrashing around. No, it is the voice of Mr. BLOODCLOT himself, as he uses his vocal cords in ways I have never heard him sing before. he actually does have quite a melodic singing voice when he wants to, unless there is someone else singing on "Infectious". And who is the second voice on "Relentless"? I could be stepping on some toes, but that does sound like a woman scorned. So bloody angry. Beautiful. Oh, and the "Ace Of Spades" bridge works like a trat in this song.

If you are a fan of extremely hard and heavy Metal/Thrash and you are not afraid to broaden your horizons, this might put you in the path of the Metal Hardcore bands as well as your usual Thrashing associates. BLOODCLOT actually is worth the effort, and "Souls" is a very pleasant way to Thrash away your sorrows. So, be brave and find out if BLOODCLOT is something you would like. If so, you have two other albums to get acquainted even more.
