Omega Throne - There's no Hatred as Great as Dictator's Love - Prelude to Empire album cover

From their EPK, "Influenced by the 80's/90's Thrash/Death/Black metal scene, OMEGA THRONE deliver chunky, speedy riffs and blast beats with the sprinkle of melody in the vein of Swedish Death Metal." The new EP here has four songs, and "Intro" is the first. It's so short that there are effectively only three songs on the album. Under a minute, it mostly consists of undiscernible spoke words and background white noise. "Cancellation" is the first proper song. It is indeed a combination of the three aforementioned genres. The vocals are gravely, and in the vein of Death Metal, while the simple riff is reminiscent of Thrash Metal. The leads are decent, but they band isn't winning any points for originality.

"Drowning in Darkness" features the same pacing and sound as the previous song. The album is almost over and so far, the band hasn't done much in the way of announcing themselves. There are also some phasing issues in the music. The short "Fear & Elegance" closes the EP. The riff is a little bit more adventurous, but beyond that, the music is quite simple. I have to question why a newer band would want to go down this path again. It is a path that thousands of bands have taken before, and if you can't offer anything original, why bother? Perhaps this was the band's first effort, in which case it makes sense that they wouldn't want to create anything bold or weird. But if it's not, I am at a loss for words.
