From Bandcamp, "MYTHOSPHERE's origins began in 2020 when Ortt and McCloskey started working on material intended to be the continuation of BEELZEFUZZ. Their songs came to fruition in 2021 once the pandemic subsided, prompting Ortt to reach out to Arduini to lend his identifiable brand of lead guitar playing. McGinnis was the natural choice for bass, thus completing MYTHOSPHERE, an outfit steeped in traditional Metal and Doom history that promises to live up to its lofty billing. The new album has eight songs.

"Ashen Throne" is the first. The opening tones are just a bit sad, as are the vocals. The guitars and drums are fairly smooth, and the bass provides a bit of the melody as well. It's a classic NWOBHM sounds with a twist of Doom, and the singer has a nice voice. "Kings Call to Arms" is another mid-tempo song that swings with crunchy guitars and thick bass. The riff is fairly simple but effective, and the vocal harmonies are nice as well. "For No Other Eye" has a similar pace, and I am sensing a theme here. I have mentioned this many times, but too many of these songs can weight down an album and make it hard to get off the ground. The lead work is pretty solid when the pace quickens however.

"Pathological" begins with a SABBATH influenced sound, and the band's Doom roots are coming through. The pace picks up again with lead guitar notes, and also sounds hastier and more powerful. "Walk in Darkness" has a little more pep to it. The opening notes are staccato and the vocal harmonies are smooth. "Star Crossed" has some sultry leads with a heavy dose of wah-wah in the beginning. Again, the vocal harmonies are nice, and ensure that the band pushes melody instead of existential dread. "No Halo" has a more upbeat sound, especially from the classic MAIDEN triplets gallop in the riff, bass, and drums. That gallop gives it a fierce, fighting sound. "Through the Night" closes the album, with smooth mellow tones.

There is a central theme to the album, but much of it is mired in that mid-tempo pacing. I like the combination of Classic Heavy Metal with Doom, but the pacing weighs the album down. Still, the band plays with confidence, and shows some nice musicianship, and the album is interesting enough for me to look forward to a future release. Vocalist Dana also has a smooth and calming voice, and he can hit high notes easily. My critique would be that they try to vary the pacing more from track to track.
