Walk In Mindfields
Ivanhoe

Explore your mind... Take a walk in mindfields, reads a moto on the band's official site. The truth is that being awake at 4:50 a.m. on a stormy night with a lack of cigarettes and plenty of yawns - detail: starting work at 7:30 a.m. - it wasn't the most desirable move to take this walk (the longest path I could follow this time was to my pillow - don't ask why I didn't...). Still, this walk really happened and Ivanhoe caused this. Maybe, it's a plus for you (and the band) to have the chance and listen to Walk In Mindfields under the same conditions. Late at night (or early in the morning; you choose), dim lights, total outer silence and a rather woozy head. OK, if you can't do that... no worries, Ivanhoe will catch your breath more or less in the same way under any circumstance.
Formed in 1986 (!!), German progressive metallers Ivanhoe released three albums in the 90's. After disbanding (if not so, at least disappearing) a long period of silence covered the band's status. So it was a pleasure to see that the quintet's back (or still) in action, with a brand new album under a premier Metal label. It's a fact that all these years of absence have put the quintet on a different way of developing their musical ideas (that's normal, anyway) but the bet - for me - is how fresh or faint their proposals will come out of the album. Hence, I was a little bi curious 'bout where this Walk would end...
Phew!!! The album is good! Should I say very good? In lower tempos but in a more dark mood, the progressive melancholy of Walk In Mindfields has left aside (not totally, but at a great level) any power Metal elements - influences, unveiling a really personal sound and a certain vibe that's not boring at all. Intelligence loves self-expression and the same titled opening track lets the journey begin.
History..., ...Of Crime and What love Is For are excerpts from a set of equal songs, all delivered with notable performance by all musicians. And I say that, without being at all a prog Metal supporter. Maybe because some times the insuperable Elegy ghost came to my mind.
To cut a long story short, I took that Walk In my Mindfields and I ensured myself having gained something. This band matured together with its music, the music aged with the band and I can't see why the prog Metal fans shouldn't purchase a Walk on this album release.
