From their EPK, "The concept of "The Rectory" is partly tied together by stories that happened in Dave Gilbert's hometown and surrounding areas. Personal stories and experiences, family experiences, a ghost sighting, and questions/warnings to the listener." The Progressive Rock trio is releasing their fourth album via WormHoleDeath. The album has five songs.

"The Children of Tomorrow" is the first. It begins with a somewhat slow groove, and mellow, depressive tones with some leads sprinkled in. This is where it stays, with dark and ominous tones, and without much change or dynamism. "The Healer" is close to twelve minutes in length. Another slow, lumbering riff opens the song, and we hear more despondent tones. The vocals are a bit pitchy as well. Twelve minutes of this sound is going to get old pretty quickly. I hope the band has some tricks up their sleeve. No tricks...no surprises...the band will live and die on this hill.

"The Great Divide" presents a bit of a harder sound, but falls pretty flat. So far through three songs, the sound is nearly exactly the same. This sound much more like Doom Rock than Progressive Rock to me, I am just saying. "The Rectory" is another lengthy offering. It's mostly a sad affair with hardly much sonority in the beginning. It does pick up a bit but again, without much dynamism. A BLACK SABBATH vibe comes into play close the to the half-way mark, and the pacing picks up again a bit later, but the song falls pretty flat again.

"Evil Remains (Part II of Down in the Valley)" closes the album, with much the same sound. I must admit, this has been a painful listening experience for me. For Progressive music, this was very straightforward and without much variation or much to be excited about. I hate to say it, but the band might want to consider a new singer, or a different vocal approach in general. This music nearly put me to sleep.
