Formed in 2019, the Mexican band Cathartic releases their debut album entitled "Through the Abysmal Gates of Subconscious. The trio formed by Jimmy Figueroa (bass) Jimmy Beltrán (guitars) and Erick Beltran (vocals-guitars) have been in the lineup since the beginning of the project and have known each other for a longest time, having played in other underground bands previously, while Angel Rosales (Drums) arrives as a new acquisition to complete the quartet. The new release takes place through the Chinese Awakening Records. As for production and mixing, both fit well with what is proposed for the genre Death Metal, bringing in their sound enough influence of the European bands of the early nineties. The album has nine songs, one of them instrumental, and addresses themes such as death, darkness and Solitude.
The opener "Beyond Grief" brings something strong and solid, although some passages are a little longer than I'd like, all instruments have their standout moments here, making it possible to finish the introduction with a good impression. While "In the Pits of Anguish" maintains the repetitiveness without as much prominence to the instrumental as the previous. "Vanish into Oblivion" back exploding everything around, with ferocity and aggressiveness, resonating with extremely well-placed vocals in a very traditional march of Death Metal. Have to confess that something bothered me on "Carried by the Wings of Death" although she has a pleasant one minute break where she slows down her pace, she is pretty tiring repeating the same beat and riffs throughout the remainder of its three minutes.
"Hateful Faith" and "Path to Perdition" renew the energy by achieving a little more diversity for them, both of which feature good guitar solos without of course giving up the ever-present brutality." Obliteration" closes the album as a short and respectable instrumental song, although tiring in some moments Through the Abysmal Gates of Subconscious has more positives than negatives for me, so I recommend that fans of the genre check it out.
