Tides
Swept to Sea

From their EPK, "SWEPT TO SEA is a Melodic Metalcore band from the bay area of San Fransisco, CA (USA). It started out with a simple decision to get back into the game... the music game. Seeking people that would commit to a cause, Jeno Fox, then a fresh college graduate, wanted to find a home for a pack of random riffs he had from his past experience with bands. The catalyst perhaps, was a party during Super Bowl LIV. While having a few drinks with friends at his home, The Kansas City Chiefs won against the San Francisco 49ers, the band was formed, and the rest is history." The album has six songs.
"Reign of Terror" is the first; a very short intro, leading to "Crown in Ashes." Heavy staccato notes open the song, followed by an energetic riff and harsh vocals. The cleans in the chorus sound a bit formulated, however. They are relying on old formulas here. "Hell Called Home" is a shorter song with much of the same sound. The guitar solo is decent but the sound is old...reminiscent of how the genre first started out. "Shards of Your Reflection" begins with long screams and a riffing pattern that is based on the open chord but does vary a bit here and there. The piano notes are nice, but don't last long.
"Unbridled" is another heavy and aggressive offering without a lot of substance. Add in some keyboards, and guitar harmonies...anything to help change the sound. The title track closes the album. Next to the drum beat entrance, the riffing is again tired and elementary. There are some harmonies here and there but the same vocal style remains, and it gets a bit old through five songs. The clean female vocals are a bit of a surprise however, but they will not save the sound. Overall, this was just a mediocre effort at best. Many of the riffs were trite, and the sound has passed them by decades ago. I think you can safely skip this album.
